Communication in a Classical Organization

People have always considered communication to be an essential part of their lives. It is generally agreed that without communication, there can be no cooperation between individuals and groups of individuals. Unfortunately, if communicative patterns are violated in a certain company, this organization is bound to face problems concerning efficiency. One should learn how communication is used in a classical organization to guarantee its future success.

Admittedly, human life is deeply connected with organizations because its aspects may be administered by companies providing people with food and shelter. That is why “the contemporary human being is an organizational being, whereas organizational communication refers to both the nature of the collective and the nature of its activity” (Nicotera, 2019, p. 15). Any organization consists of people communicating with each other. Therefore, it is necessary for a classical organization as a structured collective to work on organizational communication to perform significant results.

It is widely recognized that classical organization theory includes the scientific management approach, Weber’s bureaucratic approach, and administrative theory. Communication may serve as a key to the scientific management approach because it is based on planning work for the sake of efficient performance. People can hardly plan their actions in an organization without interacting with each other. They are likely to exchange instructions and evaluate their subordinate’s work. In this case, mutual trust between supervisors and subordinates is of utmost importance because it is conducive to labor cooperation, not conflicts.

Organizational communication also includes negotiations when the employer would rather resort to scientific methods of influencing the audience, not rule-of-thumb. Surprisingly, “non-verbal messages are more likely to be believed by the audience than verbal messages because nonverbal cues give the emotions and intentions of the speaker. This is the reason why in business meetings the employer prefers to talk directly with the employee” (Nädrag & Buzarna-Tihenea, 2018, p. 41). This means that employees pay attention to rules of communication as a part of the scientific management approach.

To conclude, communication and organization are interconnected because any organization is a collective. Such entity consists of people who keep in touch to accomplish collective tasks. Thus, they use different ways of communication to achieve mutual success. Employees have to be brilliant in verbal and non-verbal communication to become a part of an organization. Otherwise, their qualification and professional skills will be hardly taken into account.
