Leadership Style

Leaders can primarily determine the performance of an organization and how workers interact. Different managers have used various styles to ensure that employees can work together irrespective of their differences. Individuals should also have the right leadership traits since managing a diverse workforce can be challenging (Maturo et al., 2019). For instance, leaders should have excellent communication skills to interact with members from different backgrounds easily. Thus, leadership styles that encourage diversity, such as the transformational and participative approaches, should be practiced.

Introduction of Policies

Companies with diverse workforces should guarantee that they introduce policies to fight inequality and discrimination. The rules need to be suitable for every employee without favoring some individuals. In some cases, organizations use biased regulations, making it hard to encourage diversity (Zaki et al., 2019). Cases of women who have been discriminated against in companies have been experienced. Moreover, people living with disabilities have encountered challenges in workplaces, whereby they are discriminated. Thus, policies to ensure diversity is achieved and all people are appreciated irrespective of their differences should be implemented in workplaces.

Encouraging Effective Communication

Communication is one of the major tools that help workers interact and work as a team to meet the goals of an organization. Therefore, leaders should ensure that they facilitate effective communication in organizations with a diverse workforce (Aydin & Ozerene, 2018). Training can also be exercised to ensure that workers learn ways of improving their communication skills. Moreover, offensive language should be curbed as it can lead to conflicts in the organization. Therefore, effective communication is another aspect that encourages diversity in the workplace.

To conclude, diversity in the workplace has been encouraged as it can improve the performance of workers. However, various aspects should be exercised to ensure that the approach is achieved and all people are valued. Factors such as the hiring process can be analyzed to ensure that candidates from different races, genders, origins, and cultures are employed. Policies should also be introduced to ensure that all people are respected regardless of their differences. Effective communication and teamwork can also be exercised as they encourage diversity in organizations.
