Introduction

The role of organizational values is often underestimated or misinterpreted in the corporate world. Thus, organizations unintentionally eliminate an essential component of overall organizational efficiency and productivity by missing the chance to connect corporate values and employees’ behavior. The chapter also addresses the way organizational values are linked to business dilemmas. Furthermore, the materials emphasize the dynamics between opposite values, which creates a dilemma. This essay will summarize the key points from the chapter and list important findings that can help me in my future professional activities.

Discussion

Firstly, it was interesting to learn the mechanisms behind organizational values and their connection with employees’ behavior. The chapter clearly explains the process in which beneficial behavior develops into value, and the combination of values subsequently defines the organizational culture. The knowledge emphasizes the importance of a strong system of values as the core of the decision-making process and synthesis of opposing goals or choices in the organization.

Furthermore, the chapter shows how successful organizations maintain the balance between two opposing values. While some companies prefer an absolute inclination towards one of two opposite values, it is suggested that maintaining the balance will allow the company to develop in different directions (Trompenaars & Hampden-Turner, 2020). The example of opposing values that interested me the most is the balance between collaboration and accountability. With the growing popularity of the project approach in the organizational structure, it is not always clear who should bear more responsibility for the work of the team, the manager, or the members. After reading the chapter, I learned that collaboration should not reduce accountability; therefore, individuals can be held responsible for their work, even within a team.

Conclusion

In conclusion, reading the chapter allowed me to acquire valuable information about the importance of culture and values for organizational performance. I have learned that a strong organizational values system provides essential guidance in decision-making and increases the organization’s efficiency by supporting employee engagement. Lastly, the chapter also introduced an important concept of business dilemmas and explained their connection to an organization’s success. Thus, the information featured in the chapter can significantly help me in my future professional activity.
