Management knowledge and experience presuppose the presence of such important competencies as flexibility, the ability to accept the situation, to hear and listen, the ability to make choices and take responsibility, and to believe in the result and opportunities. Such professional competencies, or, more correctly, human qualities, help a person to be successful not only professionally but also in their personal life. The ability to manage life set goals and achieve them, mind own business, and delegate routine tasks to those whose work it is. For example, to transfer things “for outsourcing” to dry cleaning and not try to have time to wash everything on one’s own. Time management is the basis for planning time and prioritizing. All of this is the basis of a harmonious, successful life for both a leader and a person.
It should be emphasized that management theory can help at work and in everyday life. Whether it is the construction of a summer house, the purchase of a car, or the choice of a new apartment – all this requires clear planning and process management, as well as control over implementation. Another thing that is not always and everywhere in your personal life is to apply professional management skills. It is still better to build relationships with loved ones on a different basis and leave room for rest and certain spontaneous decisions. This is necessary to switch and get emotional relief from professional work, to be in other roles, and not to bring stress and burnout.
Today the pace of life is very high and people are forced to comply with it. Every day in their personal and professional lives, they face a large number of problems that need to be addressed. Sometimes a person works all day without rest, spends a lot of time and effort, and as a result, gets only fatigue and no satisfaction. People tend to move all unfinished business to tomorrow, thereby accumulating more and more of them. This arises as a result of the incorrect distribution of one’s forces and capabilities. It is important to understand that the problem is not that people work little or poorly. Before starting any business, we do not set the right goals and do not set priorities. One of the ways that can help me deal with this problem in everyday life is the Eisenhower matrix.
Then, personal finance plays an essential role when it comes to feeling free. It is important to be able to plan and manage money at every step of life. Personal finance covers aspects of budgeting, banking, retirement planning, insurance, and the like. There are several good reasons why financial management is a necessary part of personal finance. Money issues go beyond the usual understanding of man. You need to have a broader perspective on your own finances. Thus, you can see the whole range of opportunities and not concentrate only on work and constant earnings. Guided by the principles of financial management, I understand that it is necessary to plan long-term financial goals, which will take into account all income and expenses. Thus, I take the first steps toward financial well-being, and satisfaction of needs will follow the plan.
I also tend to use managerial tools such as SWOT to critically assess the internal and external environment while making important decisions. Such a method allows me to approach decision-making reasonably and properly. Using similar instruments advances my skills within the scope of strategic planning as well. By seeing a bigger picture – with Porter’s five forces model, for example – I can evaluate risks critically and always be prepared for harsh situations. For instance, while choosing an offer at the car market, I never neglect the propositions from various players prior to making a decision.
Moreover, I often utilize agile management principles in my daily life. Personal use requires some adaptation of agile approaches since they were originally invented for teams. When such techniques are used for personal purposes, their main focus is on two points (Ketia, 2020). The first is the visualization of my activities; I get a holistic picture and see life on all fronts – with regard to work, family, hobbies, friends, health, and personal development. The result is significant because often, I do not realize how many tasks I have to cope with in a daily routine. The second point is the requirement not to take on many different cases at the same time. I should prioritize and ideally weed out a huge amount of unnecessary activities, thus clearing space for what is really important. For example, I often use visual planning boards to manage and balance professional and personal plans. The board helps me not to miss anything and focus on the right task at the right time.
To conclude, the above discussion was dedicated to the way I utilize management theory in my daily routine. It was shown that I tend to use a considerable number of managerial tools in various spheres – starting from the Eisenhower matrix and ending with agile management instruments. Such an approach alleviates my life to a great extent, which stresses the importance of expanding my knowledge and experience in the field.
