Team diversity refers to building an association with people of different backgrounds. Aspects of difference include age, nationality, sexual orientation, religion, and political preferences. Diversity in an organization has both positive and negative repercussions in the business. Among the benefits ascribed to the team diversity is increased creativity and innovation (Roberson, 2019). Having different categories onboard means that the organization is rich in ideas and views, which promotes the creation of new ways of operation. They provide additional solutions and opinions that lead to better decision-making. If the organization is profitable, the profit margin will be increased due to an improved competitive edge resulting from better decisions.
However, the organization can face various challenges due to team diversity. As such, they include hostility in the organization associated with biases. Decisions made can sometimes be in favor of a particular group, and this will cause tussles (Cletus et al., 2018). Team diversity can also lead to decision-making complexity due to too many opinions. Team diversity can create a perpetual state of confusion due to reasons such as power struggle as each group tries to support someone of their background, which may lower productivity.
Many organizations identify with diversity, equity and inclusion because it is an important tool in promoting organizational stability and prosperity. The DEI creates a comfortable environment in the workplace and increases team member esteem (Roberson, 2019). Each worker strives to achieve the companies’ set goals as they all feel part of it. Stanford graduate school is an example of an organization that appreciates diversity and accommodates everyone. The institution admits students of various diversities. It also employs multiple staff regardless of background and thus promoting its growth.
