Hector Gaming Company

Hector Gaming Company focuses on educational gaming for young people. It registered tremendous growth in many ways. Based on the facts presented, the company has a strategic plan, but the leadership team does not have a clear plan of action. Based on the Hector Gaming Company case study, this paper discusses the major problem, symptoms of the problem, causes of the problem, as well an action plan to solve the problem.

The Major Problem

Hector Gaming Company is faced with various problems. One of the main difficulties is that the company does not have a clear plan of action, especially regarding how to achieve set goals. This problem is linked to other issues, such as organizational politics, due to a lack of consensus on the direction of the company in the long run. In other words, the top leaders do not have long-term goals upon which everyone agrees (Larson & Gray, 2014, p.55). The founder does not have control over which direction the company should take, and this weakens the company due to a lack of priorities. As such, this puts the company at a disadvantage.

Symptoms of the Problem

The case study reveals various symptoms of the problem. For example, it is worth noting that each project manager thinks that his or her project and approach are more critical than the rest. It is also noted that some projects are not following or meeting the set deadlines. As such, it affects the budgeting process. Another symptom is that the target market is not clear to some managers. Moreover, there is poor communication at work, and this is majorly caused by project managers not working as a team. In most cases, proper guidance and supervision of the project due to poor communication can result in misunderstandings among the team members. Finally, failure to prioritize specific projects is another symptom indicating that problems exist at the company.

Major Cause of the Problem

There are several reasons for the problem at Hector Gaming Company, but one of the causes is that the business is growing very fast, and the top leaders are not prepared to move with the rate at which it is growing (Larson & Gray, 2014, p.55). It is evident that there is no teamwork, and project managers do not have a clear action plan for the company to maintain its footprint. For example, every project manager working at cross purposes can lead to project failure. The company must have a team that works together and be clear about how to achieve the set goals and objectives.

Action Plan

For the company to overcome the current problems, an action plan is required. One of the possible solutions is for Peters to take on the responsibility of overseeing all the projects in progress. It is important that Peters identifies the scope of available products the company is to focus on and ensures that all other employees understand the goals and objectives of each product. Peters should also consider taking stricter rules regarding lower money costs. In this case, if the project is delayed, the people in charge, especially the project manager, should take responsibility. Finally, Peters should implement training and development for all employees. Designing impactful employee training and development programs within the organization is the first step to creating more efficient and productive employees and an enjoyable environment. It should be under Peters’ control and should ensure that all project managers receive corporate training to enhance their skills.
