Annotated Bibliography
Asrar-ul-Haq, M., & Anwar, S. (2018). The many faces of leadership: Proposing research agenda through a review of the literature. Future Business Journal, 4(2), 179–188. Web.
In this article, Asrar-ul-Haqa and Anwar reviewed and summarized the principles of leadership theory and the connection between leaders and their followers. The authors use information obtained from the analysis of the literature, considering the main ideas and models of leadership. The purpose of the study is to discuss the role of national culture in the formation of an influential leadership position. The main limitation of the article is that the researchers analyze already-known concepts of leadership. Thus, the authors emphasize that it is necessary to study the relationship of the external environment to the formation of leadership in a developing country. This article will be helpful in my research as additional information.
Homan, A. C., Gündemir, S., Buengeler, C., & van Kleef, G. A. (2020). Leading diversity: Towards a theory of functional leadership in diverse teams. Journal of Applied Psychology, 105(10), 1101–1128. Web.
Homan et al. consider the relationship between team diversity and leader diversity in their article, focusing on identifying the shortcomings of previous studies of this concept. As a result, the authors talk about the importance of effective leadership to solve specific problems and not at the person. At the same time, Homan et al. emphasize that diversity in both employee teams and leadership teams can benefit from a similar model to improve team performance across multiple dimensions. Thus, Homan et al. may be helpful in my further research.
Martins, L. L. (2020). Strategic diversity leadership: The role of senior leaders in delivering the diversity dividend. Journal of Management, 46(7), 1191–1204. Web.
Martins argues in his article that the role of diversity management in leadership development should be examined in more detail. The goal was to analyze the diversity in leadership positions that positively affected organizational performance. The author takes into account the dynamics of diversity to obtain possible benefits for the organization. The limitation of the work is that the author takes for analysis only the variety of leaders. Thus, Martins emphasizes the importance of developing a theory of strategic leadership diversity. This article is one of the most important for the development of my work.
Nikolaeva, V. (2021). Management and leadership qualities – From theory to practice. Izvestia Journal of the Union of Scientists, 10(2), 126-135. Web.
In her article, Nikolaeva focuses on the development of leadership qualities in managers, and their self-improvement. The author analyzes certain areas in which they need to study according to the managers themselves. The purpose of the work is to systematize the leadership qualities of modern managers, a model of their development. The limitation of the work is that the author did not consider the personal qualities of managers, which could also affect the result of the study. This article can also be used to develop my research.
Vito, R. (2019). How do social work leaders understand and ideally practice leadership? Synthesis of core leadership practices. Journal of Social Work Practice, 34(3), 263–279. Web.
In this article, Vito talks about the practical value of the relationship between leadership and social work. The study is based on the positive impact of developing psychological skills in leaders, such as building trusting relationships in the team and with clients. The author also emphasizes the need for leaders to balance managerial qualities with social interaction. Based on this, Vito talks about further research and the development of ideal practices. This article is relevant to my work also from a practical point of view.
Yagil, D., & Oren, R. (2021). Servant leadership, engagement, and employee outcomes: The moderating roles of proactivity and job autonomy. Revista De Psicología Del Trabajo y De Las Organizaciones, 37(1), 58–67. Web.
The study by Yagil and Oren focuses on the impact of employee autonomy on leader relationships. The authors use data obtained from the analysis of 50 bank branches. The article is useful for my research, as Yagil and Oren suggest that leaders can improve organizational outcomes in departments with less subordinate autonomy by increasing work engagement. The authors talk about the impact of attention on the relationship between leaders and employees, which is also helpful for my further research.
